Sexual & Gender-Based Violence (SGBV)

DRC

Persistent fighting in the DRC has fueled a devastating humanitarian crisis, with women and girls bearing the brunt of the suffering. Reports of sexual and physical violence have alarmingly increased, with millions displaced and in urgent need of protection. Women and young girls face heightened risks, including forced marriages, sexual exploitation, and prostitution for survival.

Many survivors of sexual violence remain silent due to fear of stigma or retaliation. The lack of safe shelters further exacerbates the crisis, leaving women and children vulnerable to continued abuse.

YOBAC is collaborating with partners to address sexual and gender-based violence through awareness programs, youth training, and community engagement. By educating young people about gender-based violence and equipping them with tools to prevent and respond to such cases, YOBAC aims to reduce the prevalence of violence and foster a safer society for women and girls.

YOBAC also extends its support to women survivors of war, many of whom have endured unimaginable trauma. Through micro-credit programs and vocational training, YOBAC helps these women regain financial independence, rebuild their lives, and contribute to their communities. Women are trained in business and vocational skills, enabling them to earn a sustainable income while learning about their legal rights, health, and nutrition.
