Kindergarten & Primary School

Uganda

YOBAC operates a Kindergarten and Primary School in the Kyangwali refugee settlement, currently serving 700 children. Since its inception, YOBAC has been a strong advocate for refugee children’s right to quality education.

The school emerged from YOBAC’s early efforts to support refugee children with school materials, particularly those unable to attend classes due to a lack of materials. As public schools proved inadequate due to overcrowding—sometimes exceeding 250 children per teacher—YOBAC launched its own private school in 2022. Starting with just three classrooms and 100 students, the school has now expanded to over 700 children, supported by more than 25 teaching and non-teaching staff members.

YOBAC recognizes that schools can sometimes expose children to risks, including violence. As part of its commitment to child protection, YOBAC is implementing measures to create a safe learning environment, including sanitation facilities and teacher training on reporting and addressing violence against children.

In addition to traditional learning, YOBAC aims to equip young people with skills in digital literacy, entrepreneurship, and leadership. By creating a supportive learning environment, YOBAC provides children with the tools they need to build a better future for themselves and their communities.
